WE ARE LIVE!
The 28th London to Brighton Classic Car Run and the 16th London to Brighton Kit and Sports Car Run will be taking place on Sunday 5th June 2016, starting from Mercedes Benz World, Weybridge, Surrey, next door to the home of the historic Brooklands Racing Circuit and museum.
The superb venue was last used for the start of the runs on 2011 when Sir Stirling Moss waved off the entrants.Over 300 cars were entered into the 2015 event and, with popularity growing year on year, places have to be limited. There’s likely to be even greater interest this year as Mercedes Benz World featured as the venue of Channel 5’s ‘The Classic Car Show’ and their test track was used in the series by Bruno Senna.
For those who love the historical connection of the pre-1905 Veteran Car run to Brighton, the GE Classic Motor Events runs, supported by Footman James Insurance, are an opportunity to use rather more modern cars on a self-guided scenic tour that draws inspiration from the Emancipation Run of 1896, celebrating the raising of the speed limit from 4mph to 14mph.
The runs attract a great diversity of vehicles from supercars to pre-war classics. Last year’s oldest vehicle was a 1933 Austin 12/4 which had travelled from Rugby to take part. The classic run is open to all veteran, vintage and classic vehicles over 25 years old, whilst kit, replica & modern sports cars enjoy their own route before all arriving in Brighton where visitors and holiday makers are treated to a free car show on the famous Madeira Drive – which is closed for the exclusive use of the runs’ entrants.
The entry fee of £95 per vehicle covers driver and navigator, route book, numbered commemorative rally plate, brass medal, entry to the Mercedes Benz Museum and entry to the stops en-route. For the classics this will be The Rural Life Centre at Farnham and for the kit and sports cars, the Amberley Museum near Arundel.
