The London to Brighton Classic, and The London to Brighton Kit & Sports Car runs, took place on Sunday May 31st with over 330 vehicles scheduled to start from the grounds of historic Greenwich Park. In fact the runs were over-subscribed, a testament to the popularity of this annual fixture. The Classic Run is in its 27th year, the Kit & Sports Car Run its 15th.

With a forecast of high winds and rain across the south-east it looked as if the event might turn into something of an endurance rally but with cars departing from 8.15am everyone got away in the dry and headed off through the Kent and Sussex countryside towards Madeira Drive.

By early afternoon, as the cars started arriving at the finishing line, the winds had eased and the rain had passed, leading most entrants to give the runs a big ‘thumbs up’ and several of them confirming, on the spot, their booking for the 2016 event.

Later in the afternoon the awards were presented, with the ‘Going the Distance’ trophy deservedly won by Mr and Mrs Plachy who travelled all the way from the Czech Republic to take part in their Saab Sonett.

The ‘Longest Day’ went to David Aspinall in his Triumph Stag as he had driven over 450 miles on the day – but he wasn’t around to collect the award as he had needed to make an early start for home!

Ian Woolliscroft from Rugby drove the oldest classic to finish the run – a 1933 Austin 12/4 saloon.

The ‘Best Dressed’ award went to Peter and Gina Shore from the Vale of Belvoir in their Citroen Mahari.

The UK Cobra Club and the Zroadster.org Club joined the run and organiser Stephen Smith would be pleased to hear from other clubs who would like to take part in next year’s event – which will be taking place on Sunday 5th June, starting from Mercedes- Benz World in Surrey, the home of Channel 5’s Classic Car Show test track, featuring Bruno Senna.

The Classic Car Run is open to all vintage and classics up to 1991. The Kit & Sports Car Run is open to all kit, replica, sports and supercars.
